In 1966, the United States Air Force assigned F-104C Starfighters to perform "MIGCAP" missions over North Vietnam. There was a lot of publicity concerning their deployment and their vaunted performance as a "dogfighter", and many feel the North deliberately avoided contact with them. They never got the chance to engage enemy fighters, but flew many "Top Cover" missions before being relegated to the air-to-ground role, and then withdrawn in 1968.
In this scene, a "Hun" F-100 Super Sabre gets a welcome escort and damage report after getting chewed up by a SAM.
