Creating Portraits in Watercolor, with Molly Murrah
Teaching artist Molly Murrah's 6-week watercolor class resumes in September, Fridays from 10:30am – 1:00pm. This class focuses on portrait painting and is geared toward advanced beginners and intermediate watercolor students.
In this class, we will:
- Drill down on the aspects of drawing a portrait important to achieve true likeness.
Study the proportions and planes of the face in order to see how each subject is unique.
Concentrate on painting different skin types based on nationalities.
Emulate another artist’s style to continue growing in different directions and processes.
Molly Murrah is an experienced watercolor artist and teacher in the Puget Sound area. She has been painting in this exciting medium for 16 years and teaching for seven. She is a past president of the Northwest Watercolor Society and is still very active in the society today.
Her first forays into teaching were two live-streamed, online webinars titled “The Magic of Watercolors” and “Watercolor 101.” With a total of 2,000 students watching from all over the world, Molly learned that teaching is her true love.
Molly has taught numerous courses at Tsuga Fine Art & Framing on subjects ranging from portraits to landscapes, still lifes to dramatic skies, incorporating brush techniques, color mixing, underpaintings that “glow", mixing darks, incorporating lost and found edges, and much more… all subjects important to becoming a successful watercolor artist.
